The irregularity of his canvas contrasts with the symmetric repetition of shapes throughout his work. The contrast of Black and white also makes his work stand out among other artists. I have been told in critiques to contrast my shapes more; I can definitely incorporate this into my work. The use of light blue on white reminds me of my own work and personality. Although I have been afraid to add dark colors in my work for fear of it looking too harsh, I am now more confident that It could work If I take into consideration the composition.
This piece in particular reminds me of flying over New York City at night. His colors and the layering of shapes gives the effect of the world being so small. The time that Mark Bradford must have put into each one of his pieces is incredulous. I am not sure of how he paints, but he must use some sort of layering technique. This is one consistent factor throughout his work. I hope to one day be able to see his work in person. Although it looks breath taking from a far, it must be astonishing up close. He could recreate a fraction of the whole piece and it would still be incredibly detailed and amazing.
This website contains captivating sound and allows you to explore his studio, as if you were actually there.
